The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer while they middle class pay taxes. The poor are better placed vis-a-vis the middle class. Around 800 million poor get free rations. Those living in city slums are getting free housing in addition to pre-poll freebies like free water, electricity, cash doles for women, free transport, etc The middle class gets nothing. The pandemic destroyed many middle class families and even as they struggle to make ends meet, Artificial intelligence (AI) has arrived on the scene. Those working in factories and offices will slowly become redundant. The middle class will slip even further into poverty. Many struggling housewives have taken to making tiffins . Boys and men work for companies delivering food parcels. Curiously, on the face of it the severely stressed condition of the middle class is not easily noticeable because the middle class cherish their standing in society. While they can barely keep the home fires burning, they strive to maintain a false social facade so as to protect the dignity of the family. But the situation is sad and grim and will only get worse for the middle class.
