Blatant promotion of saffron agenda of sowing discord

VINAY DWIVEDI, Benaulim | SEPTEMBER 10, 2024, 09:31 PM IST

Governors in India are appointed by the president on the advice of the executive but almost all of them have two 'duties', one to propagate the saffron agenda and the other to undermine the state government's authority in non-BJP ruled states. The West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh governors are prime examples where the person holding the gubernatorial post is busy acting as a partisan agent of the Centre and harassing duly elected state powers. Lately the Goa governor has waded into controversy over his remarks that the Christian population in Goa has declined to 25% from 36% at the time of  Liberation and correspondingly the share of  Muslims in the demographic pie has increased to 12% from 3%. He said this at an event in Kochi and also directed a senior clergy member to carry out a 'study' on the matter.  The governor has clearly exceeded his brief here. This is nothing but blatant promotion of the Sanghi agenda of sowing discord in society. Later on the Governor tried to backtrack by conjecturing that one reason for the drop in the Christian population could be brain drain.
