Eco-friendly Ganesh the way forward

Pravin Arlekar, Chairman of the Goa Handicrafts, Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd, distributed subsidy cheques on Thursday in Panaji to beneficiaries of the clay Ganesh idol scheme.

This initiative promotes eco-friendly practices during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival by encouraging the use of clay idols instead of environmentally harmful Plaster of Paris (PoP) versions.

He emphasized that practices aligned with religious scriptures tend to be ideal and beneficial. According to these scriptures, when a Ganesh idol is sculpted in accordance with the science behind idol-making, it attracts pure spiritual particles of Lord Ganesh, providing greater spiritual benefits to devotees. Ritualistic worship of a clay idol, as prescribed in the Dharmashastra, offers maximum spiritual benefit.

This eco-conscious initiative led by Pravin Arlekar has been widely welcomed as a step toward preserving both the environment and cultural traditions.
