Four gems have left us in past 4 weeks

EVERETTE ASSIS TELLES, Margao | DECEMBER 31, 2024, 07:45 PM IST

In the past 4 weeks, four gems have left us -- Ratan Tata, a decent, soft spoken man who took global brands, rescued and re-globalised them; Shyam Benegal, soft spoken decent man who led independent Indian cinema to bring exploitation, caste and gender issues to the screen with sensitivity and class; Zakir Hussain, again, soft spoken who took classical tabla to new heights and globalised Indian percussion; and now Manmohan Singh, soft spoken and decent man who wielded quiet power recognising his limits and brought India to the high table at the G20s with knowledge and experience. No baring of chests, screaming, threats, distortions. A Parsi, a Hindu, a Muslim and a Sikh -- highly accomplished and developed human beings that few can forget.
