Ganesh festival is celebrated in Goa and other places in India and Ganesh idols are worshiped for one and half days to 21 days. However in Goa we still find idols of Lord Ganesh made from plaster of Paris which does not get dissolved in water. The traditional idols are made of clay which get dissolved in the water and are environment friendly. But with the increase in demand for attractive POP idols which are preferred, they can be seen still intact in sea or water at beaches after immersion. The Goa Goa government should come out strongly to prevent import of such idols and strive to make this popular festival eco-friendly.
