Temple clash: Grant equal rights to all

On Wednesday, a clash erupted between two groups, Majik and Gaonkar, over performing rituals at the Bhumika Temple in Poriem, Sattari, during the traditional Kalotsav.

The dispute left 40 people, including 15 policemen, injured as chairs were thrown in the scuffle. Police intervened to control the situation, and additional officers, including women police, were deployed to ensure peace on the second day of the event.

The conflict had been brewing for 15 days over the right to perform Kalotsav rituals. To prevent such disputes, temple authorities should grant equal rights to both groups. Temples are sacred spaces meant for worship and peace, not clashes. The deity seeks devotion, not discord, from its devotees.

Both groups must set aside their differences and resolve the issue amicably, prioritizing unity and tradition over ego. Temples should unite communities, not divide them.

Performing rituals together will uphold tradition and honor the temple’s sanctity, ensuring blessings for all.
