Bribes for jobs: Penal action needed

Corruption has long been entrenched in institutions, where officials often accept bribes -- monetary or in-kind -- to grant favours, even promising jobs.

This exploitative practice preys on vulnerable job seekers, who, amid high unemployment rates, may resort to these corrupt channels for opportunities.

Bureaucrats, politicians, and others manipulate desperate candidates, demanding bribes for securing jobs or favors. This systemic corruption drains individuals financially and often involves high-stakes consequences if caught, including legal repercussions and potential criminal charges.

Corruption also seeps into the electoral process, where candidates may solicit bribes in exchange for votes, embedding unethical practices deeper into society. This culture requires retributive action from the highest levels down, addressing both bribe-takers and those who pay.

Reforming laws to enforce strict penalties for all involved can curb this corrupt practice and ensure merit-based opportunities, as the current sluggish legal response has failed to deter such actions. Effective legal measures would restore fairness in recruitment, diminishing the dominance of bribery over talent.
