It is learnt that in less than one-and-half year after the inauguration of the new Zuari Bridge, pieces of concrete have reportedly started to fall off from its expansion joints thereby raising serious safety concerns. The incidents, which have occurred near the Agassaim Police Station, have left locals worried about the potential danger to pedestrians and vehicles passing under the bridge as the chunks of cement pieces could hurt the citizens and could even prove fatal. The second phase of the bridge was opened in December 2023. The contractor responsible for constructing the bridge should take immediate action to assess the situation and take remedial steps to see that such issues do not crop up in future. It is pertinent to note that there is a proposal to have a revolving restaurant on the Zuari bridge tower which will be a global attraction and also feature capsules and elevators that provide a scenic view of the state. However, ironically the bridge is showing signs of wear and tear in less than two years which needs to be addressed on a priority basis.
