Electricity Dept must prioritise public interest

The Electricity Department has cut overhead optical cables tied to electricity poles, disrupting network services for banks, post offices, and residents. This disruption has caused significant inconvenience and financial loss to the nation.

It is important to note that the Electricity Department does not fully own the poles in Goa. Many poles were installed by panchayats, municipalities, or by individuals who paid for them when getting new electricity connections. While service providers should comply with registration and fee requirements, the public is unfairly bearing the consequences of this dispute.

The department’s focus should be on serving the nation, not engaging in conflicts. The government must step in to ensure services are restored promptly and prevent further disruptions. Additionally, the broadband service launched by the state government has not lived up to expectations, further highlighting the need for efficient and reliable connectivity solutions.
