MLAs are supposed to be elected representatives as public servants whose primary role is to serve the people. However, in Goa these ruling MLAs' priorities seem to be their personal business /investment interests. All of the latter surely has been happening earlier but it has become more brazen under the current BJP rule. A senior Goa minister forms a real estate company with his (MLA) wife, controversially approves land uses/conversion of his/wife’s own/acquired properties at Bicholim and forms a partnership with a mega real estate housing/commercial developer from out of Goa. One can only imagine the scale of monetary benefit to the respective minster and his family. The Goa speaker as director of a company now seeking to take over one lakh sqm for fruit processing units in Loleim. The latter are more visible cases but there are others in many parts of Goa ( including Colva) going up to the most senior BJP ministers and also the new “defectors” rewarded with ministerial posts. The only hope to mitigate the same are the dedicated activists, judiciary and if more people join in, to oppose this “massive daylight robbery” in the highly corrupt state of Goa!
