It is sad to hear on the news about the boat accident at Calangute Beach, where one person lost their life and others were taken to clinics and hospitals. A video that went viral before the accident showed some tourists were not wearing life jackets properly, and children were not given life jackets for their safety.
Many boat operators are not following government safety instructions. They prioritise making easy money by overloading boats with passengers. Boat owners should regularly inspect their boats, and the crew should be well-trained to handle emergencies at sea. It’s unclear why people in India do not prioritise safety. They are careless and blame the authorities and Goa when accidents happen.
Do not drink alcohol before swimming, boat rides, parachuting, etc. Lifeguards are present on Goan beaches—please listen to them as they protect you. Do not act overly confident, even if you are a good swimmer. Do not play with sea currents, as lifeguards are human too. I urge the government of Goa to monitor water sports activities along the coast. Ensure tourists and operators follow safety rules and guidelines. All equipment should be inspected and approved only if safe. We need safe tourism in Goa. Remember that safety always comes first, so be smart, wise, and alert.
