Misplaced priorities on stray dog menace

AF NAZARETH, Alto Porvorim | APRIL 01, 2025, 07:40 PM IST

The news report 'Coastal belt sterilisation to begin  at Colva today' (TGE, Apr 1),  is a classic example of misplaced priorities  and  a futile exercise to be undertaken by the Animal husbandry department , Mission rabies and other agencies,  knowing very well that the problem lies  in keeping our beaches free of stray dogs and not lessening their numbers. The idea of catching strays , sterilising them and later releasing them back on the beach is simply preposterous , as these sterilised strays will continue attacking and biting tourists  and people who frequent these beaches. That they are rabies -free is another matter. The only solution  therefore  lies in housing these sterilised strays in  distant places, where they pose no danger to the residents and tourists, and can be well looked after by animal lovers and concerned authorities.
