Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and his profuse praise for the organisation is being seen as marking a shift in the BJP’s stance towards its ideological parent following the strained ties last year. In fact, the visit may have been a kind of thanksgiving gesture for the good showing in the last three Assembly elections, as different results would have compromised his government’s position a lot. In addition, it is a reminder of the job to be completed in Bihar later this year. Unlike some opposition parties struggling with internal conflicts, the BJP remains united with its ideological mentor. If PM Modi and the RSS are strategizing together, it means the BJP is surely setting a roadmap for the future elections in different states including south. The opposition parties must counter this with better coordination and strategic vision. Leaving aside their political differences, the opposition parties must counter the RSS-BJP game plan with better coordination and strategic vision. A lack of a clear counter-strategy will give BJP the upper hand and the opposition especially the Congress will never be able to regain its past glory.
