Neglected cars and fire hazards

A few months ago, a fire broke out at Verna Industrial Estate, damaging over 30 cars. Many of these vehicles were abandoned by the roadside, but the government has not taken action to remove them. During my recent visit to Mapusa Police Station, I noticed several accident-damaged cars left in the roadside parking area. This space could have been used by visitors to the police station, who often struggle to find parking.

Adding to the risk, dried leaves have piled up just behind these cars. If someone carelessly drops a cigarette butt, it could lead to a major fire. The government spends a lot on housekeeping contracts for various offices, so why isn’t the Mapusa Police Station taking action? Are they waiting for a politician to visit for a Swachh Bharat photo opportunity? Or is it the responsibility of the Mapusa Municipal Council to maintain cleanliness outside the police station? I hope the concerned authorities take note and act after reading this.
