As the manufactured controversy over Kunal Kamra's stand-up act intensifies, the Maharashtra Police have now issued summons under Section 179, CRPC to the audience members who were present for the comedian's show 'Naya Bharat'. Using this draconian provision, police are authorised to haul in witnesses and interrogate them multiple times under the guise of 'rigorous investigation'. This development comes after the police reached Kunal Kamra's Mahim home to ascertain if the comedian was present there. It is quite shameful that the law enforcement authorities under instructions from the political class are intimidating his fans so that they don't attend another show of his in their life. This might put paid to Kamra's career and block any other revenue streams he might have. In this season of all round lunacy the Maharashtra government might go full North Korea now and arrest the people who watched the show on YouTube and laughed. Stand-up comedy is a crime, watching comedy is a bigger crime but the worst crime is lampooning thin skinned netas and showing them the mirror. This is New India, Orwell was prescient when he wrote 1984.
