Rethink needed on Pvt college in South

The South Goa District Hospital was built to provide better facilities than the old Hospicio Hospital in Margao. However, recent assembly sessions saw heated debates between the Opposition leader and the health minister over plans for a private medical college or hospital at SGDH.

During the question hour, the chief minister and health minister faced tough questions about the government's plans. The health minister mentioned that a private nursing college is being considered under a public-private partnership, pending further review.

The Opposition argued that the hospital should focus on public health treatment, not private enterprises. This led to differing statements from the chief minister and health minister, causing confusion.

The hospital still lacks essential laboratory testing facilities, forcing patients to seek tests elsewhere. The government should prioritize public health and consider the benefits of a medical college only if it provides local employment and improved services, rather than serving private interests.
