I wish to express my concern over the recent increase in rowdy behaviour exhibited by some low-budget tourists at Calangute Beach shacks. As a popular tourist destination, our village has always welcomed travellers from all walks of life. However, recent incidents suggest that a portion of budget-conscious visitors is contributing to a deterioration in public decorum and safety.
These tourists, often seeking to save on accommodation and experiences, sometimes indulge in unruly behaviour in public spaces such as beach shacks, streets, and guest houses. Loud arguments, excessive drinking, bursting loud-emitting firecrackers, and even vandalism have become more prevalent, disturbing the peaceful environment that residents and other tourists value.
This behaviour tarnishes the reputation of our State and may discourage future visitors. Additionally, it creates safety risks for both locals and responsible tourists who wish to enjoy their time here without fear of disruption. While it is important to cater to a diverse range of travellers, it is equally crucial to maintain respect for the local culture and environment.
I urge the local authorities to consider implementing stricter regulations and improving awareness campaigns targeted at tourists, especially those travelling on a tight budget. Clearer guidelines and stronger enforcement of behavioural expectations can go a long way in preserving the welcoming spirit of our village while ensuring that everyone enjoys their stay responsibly. I hope this issue will be addressed soon, allowing both residents and tourists to coexist in harmony and maintain the integrity of our community.
