Recently, I was aghast to notice water accumulated on the road and in the drain near Azad Maidan, Panaji while purchasing my newspapers.
Local businessmen in the area informed me that this water was the result of a newly constructed drainage system that lacks a proper outlet into the Mandovi river.
The stagnant water, approximately three inches deep, was creating difficulties for commuters.
There are growing concerns that if the water remains stagnant for an extended period, it could become a breeding ground for mosquito larvae, potentially leading to the spread of diseases such as malaria and dengue. This poses a significant health hazard to shopkeepers and residents in the locality.
I urge the Corporation of the City of Panaji to take immediate action to drain the accumulated water on an emergency basis. Timely intervention is essential to prevent further health and hygiene issues.
