The plight of Yamuna and deeper national malaise

It is disheartening to read about the contamination and pollution of the Yamuna, which was once a symbol of purity and life. The Yamuna now suffers literally daily at the hands of human negligence—maybe inadvertently or not, difficult to say.

The degradation reflects not just an environmental crisis or disaster, but a deeper malaise within our society. As the Yamuna darkens, so does the moral fabric of our nation—violence between religion, caste, creed; injustice, fake news, fundamentalism and corruption, hatred tainted by war situations.

The plight of the river reminds us like a mirror, urging us to cleanse our social conscience and maintain unity in the social fabric of our country as much as our natural resources and surroundings.

It is time we focus our attention towards ensuring a healing touch to our environment and values that guide us to make our country progressive, to become a developed country by 2030. Let us begin caring for our society and nurturing the one home we all share—Nature.
