Part of Kharewaddo road caves in

Councillor, locals place flag to warn motorists, demand urgent action by PWD

 Aportion of road at Kharewaddo caved in on Friday morning, as a vehicle loadedwith LPG cylinders was moving along the road.

According to reports, the tyre of the vehiclegot stuck in the caved portion of the road but there was no major accident orany other loss to life or property.

Locals rushed to the aid of the driver of thevehicle and got the vehicle tyre out of the caved portion

Residents along with ward Councillor LavinaD'Souza who lives just near the site got a wooden stick with a red flag andmounted it inside the caved portion as a warning sign to unsuspectingmotorists.

D'Souza later told reporters said that thehole on the road could pose a danger to the motorists in the area and causeaccidents, especially at night.

"We have now flagged the area but itcould get worse at night with poor visibility. Kharewaddo area is a fishingbelt and many vehicles move here. While most are four-wheelers transportingfish, some arrive by motorcycles looking for fresh fish and could fall introuble " said D'Souza.

D'Souza said she had already met the PWD andhad alerted them about the situation, while also appealing to authorities tourgently repair the damaged portion of the road.

"The area where the road has caved in hasa large sewage chamber as well and if there are further damages to the road,the chamber can also be damaged creating a bigger issue for residents.”

“The road also is a connecting way in the areaand is widely used by the people of the area. As days pass by, the caved areacan get bigger and cause damage to the road as well. This issue must beaddressed by authorities on top priority and remedial procedures must be takento repair the caved portion of road," said D'Souza.
