The saffron brigade seemed leaving nothing to chance as they have kicked off their campaign for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat in minority dominated Saxttidom. Apart from Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and Saxtti’s lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira making their presence in the taluka, sources said the BJP has drawn up an itinerary for party leaders to visit Saxttidom in a bid to garner a few votes from minority pockets. If sources are to be believed, BJP Mapusa MLA Joshuabab D’Souza was believed to have made his presence felt along Salcete coastal belt, the major concentration of the minorities. You know why.
London trip: Will Vijai’s absence have bearing on Oppn campaign?
Is Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai heading to London when Goa will be gearing for the Lok Sabha polls on May 7? Well, political observers have been trying to figure out whether Vijaibab is going to London next week and whether his absence will have any bearing on the Opposition’s campaign to keep the BJP at bay. It could not be ascertained whether Vijaibab is heading to London by March-end and is returning home only around mid-April, right in time for the election campaign. Or, whether he will further extend his stay to the UK to return home only on the eve of the election? Wait and watch.
Questions raised for not setting up Oppn’s Coordination Committee
Could anyone from the INDIA bloc shed light on the Coordination Committee the alliance partners was supposed to set up to take the alliance forward in Goa? Well, after a meeting with the INDIA partners, Congress Goa observer Manikrao Thakare had announced that a Coordination panel will be set up to take the Opposition parties on board and to chalk out the joint election campaign. The panel, however, seemed still not in place. Questions are raised whether the Congress has not constituted the panel after an alliance partner told the party to first declare its candidate for South Goa, promising that the rest will automatically fall in place. Wait and watch.
Ahead of elections, Moti Dongor rehab a talking point in Margao
When exactly will the proposed Moti Dongor rehabilitation see the light of day, has been a subject of debate over the years. Ahead of the May 7 Lok Sabha election, Moti Dongor rehabilitation has become a talking point in Margao. Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu, besides the government agencies seemed moving in the fast lane to take the plan forward, but there’s still a long way to go before the rehabilitation becomes a reality. Moti Dongor voters, numbering around 3,000, had been voting for Diggu over the years. They had strongly rallied behind Diggu for the last 30 years. The slum rehabilitation plan is expected to further cement the decades old bond, this time benefiting the saffron brigade. Any takers?
All eyes on AAP support for Cong candidate in Velim and Benaulim
How will the Aam Aadmi Party go about the election campaign, especially for the South Goa seat which will be contested by INDIA partner, the Congress? Unlike in North Goa, AAP is representing the minority-dominated segments of Velim and Benaulim in the Legislative Assembly. In both these seats, more so in Velim, AAP had emerged victorious by pushing the Congress to the background. Take note, the Congress will be AAP’s principal opponent in these two seats in the future as well. Against this backdrop, will AAP openly ask its volunteers and voters to cast their votes in support of the Congress candidate? Wait and watch.
