Reginaldo’s New Year dhamaka raises eyebrows in Curtorim

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JANUARY 05, 2025, 12:37 AM IST

What could be the probable reason behind Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco’s “New Year Dhamaka” in his fiefdom Curtorim? Well, this question is indeed a talking point in Curtorim countryside after CM Pramodbab Sawant launched a host of development projects on Friday. Is it because Reginaldbab was keen to showcase his two-year report card after extending support to the saffron brigade in 2022? Or, is it simply an attempt to silence his bitter critics back home, whose voices have been only growing louder and louder with each passing day? Whatever the reason, Reginaldbab’s show indeed caught the attention of both supporters and opponents alike. Any takers?

Curtorim MLA admits Sawant advised against TMC ticket

Guess who had sounded a warning to Curtorim MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco that he would lose the 2022 polls if he contests the election on Mamata Didi’s TMC party? Well, the Curtorim MLA confessed on Friday that it was CM Pramodbab Sawant who advised him then not to contest on the TMC banner saying the police report speaks of his imminent defeat, before he took the decision to contest the polls as an Independent. Sounds interesting, isn’t it? But, will Reginaldbab shed light on the oft-repeated question whether he had a tacit understanding with the BJP to support his candidature despite the fact that the saffron brigade had its candidate in the fray. Any questions?

Slip of tongue? Digambar clears the air over ex-MLA remark

Call it a slip of tongue or otherwise, but when a lady BJP leader addressed Cong-turned-BJP Margao MLA as ex-CM and ex-MLA, Diggu took exception and was quick to put the record straight in his inimitable fashion. At a function held to install new Fatorda Mandal chief Shweta Lotlikar, Diggu is believed to have asserted that he may be an ex-Chief Minister, but reminded that he is still the MLA representing Margao constituency. Incidentally, Diggu is the seven-time MLA representing Margao and has never lost an election since he was first elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly exactly 30 years ago in 1994. Any questions?

Blame game intensifies as CM revisits Congress govt failures

Nothing seemed stopping Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant from targeting the Congress government ruling the State between 2007-12 for its sins of omission and commission. Last year, the CM publicly held the Congress government responsible for the death of the two tribal youth in the 2011 UTAA agitation. On Friday, the CM blamed the Congress government in 2007 for duping investors of a cooperative society. He continued to lay the blame on the Congress government for the land grab scams, without realising for a moment that the 2007-12 Congress government was headed by none other than Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who is now part and parcel of the saffron dispensation. Any questions?

Will the New Year bring good news for Kamat?

Will the New Year ring in good news for Cong-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu? Well, the New Year saw the government not only sanctioning a Food and Cultural festival for Margao, but Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant announcing to make the festival an annual feature. When Diggu’s supporters as well as anxious scribes sought to know whether Madgavkars will have to be content with just a food festival or something more, including a Ministerial berth for the former Chief Minister, the Chief Minister along Tourism Minister Rohanbab Khaunte just smiled and moved away. Any questions?
