Funding concerns as Rane plans South district hospital upgradation

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | SEPTEMBER 29, 2024, 12:38 AM IST

Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane’s surprise visit to the South Goa district hospital and plans to upgrade the hospital into a tertiary hospital may ring in good news for people from the district. There’s, however, a big catch – finance and funds. For, Rane’s inspection not only unearthed dearth of facilities such as cardiology and neurology at the hospital, but a manpower crunch as well, including doctors, nurses and MTS. The Health Minister offered a ray of hope for South Goa citizens before leaving the hospital, even disclosing plans to place before Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant. Wait and watch as the million dollar question remains unanswered – funding of Rane’s ambitious plans? Any questions?

INDI Alliance shifts focus: Parties announce separate programmes

The INDI Alliance, a flavour of the season during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-poll, has become a talking point in Saxtti’s political circles, but for a different reason. Alliance partners are no longer talking about alliances but mission 40 constituencies and Vision 2027, besides Sunday Dialogues. If Congress president Amitbab Patkar unveiled plans to strengthen the party in all 40 seats ahead of 2027, Aam Aadmi Party has come out with Vision 2027 after a meeting with Arvind Kejriwal. Sources say a host of AAP leaders are scheduled to descend in Goa in the next three months to support Vision 2027. Goa Forward party chief Vijaibab Sardesai too seemed bracing up for the Sunday Dialogues. Wait and watch.

Observers question CM’s role in response to provocative speech

When Goa Haj Committee chief Urfanbai Mulla along with prominent members of the Muslim community handed over a memorandum to DySP Santosh Desai demanding action against those who allegedly used provocative and inflammatory speech directed against the minority community at Canacona, observers tried to figure out whether he had kept CM Pramodbab Sawant in the loop. For, none other than the Chief Minister presides over the Home portfolio and the men-in-uniform have been accused in the recent past for going slow against the saffron brigade. Wait and watch.

Kamat welcomes constructive criticism on Margao devpt

Is Margao MLA Diggu upset with critics blaming him on the development front in the commercial capital? No, says the Congress-turned-BJP MLA when scribes posed a question earlier this week. In fact, the former Chief Minister said he has no problem if opponents offer constructive criticism concerning Margao’s development. He went on to say that everyone has a right to speak in a democracy and point out mistakes, even saying the criticism will help him rectify mistakes, if any. Wait and watch as his young opponents Savio Coutinho, Chirag Nayak and Prabhav Naik seemed in no mood to scale down criticism against the MLA.

When Aleixo turned down GKF’s request on support to Romi Bill

Guess the message Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira conveyed to the Global Konknni Forum on the demand for equal status for Konkani in Roman script. Well, the no nonsense political heavyweight’s message seemed loud and clear – not to count him for support to pass the Bill bestowing equal status on Roman Konkani. Leave alone supporting the Bill, Aleixobab point-blank refused to even send a letter to the Commissioner, Linguistic Minorities, Delhi demanding justice for Roman Konkani. He has only offered to convey GKF’s sentiments to the Chief Minister when the Forum wants the MLAs to rally behind the Bill for passage in the House. Any questions?
