Political chess: Santhosh’s visit raises speculations

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 09, 2025, 12:53 AM IST

BJP National leader B L Santhosh has come and gone, but speculations continue in political circles over the exact purpose behind his visit to Goa. Further fuelling the speculations was his meetings with Ministers, MLAs and party leaders. As political observers are on the job trying to find out Santhosh’s visit to Goa, sources in the know say the BJP National leader is believed to have tried to also ascertain the perception of religious leaders towards the party and the ruling dispensation and the ways and means to reach out to the institutions. Still two years to go for the 2027 Assembly polls and the saffron brigade seemed gearing for the battle in right earnest. Any takers?

Big Fat Fatorda Carnival: Special treatment or just good policing?

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai should be certainly pleased with the Goa Police. The reason is not far to seek. For, Vijaibab’s four-day Big Fat Fatorda Carnival festivities went smoothly without any problem. While the government okayed the sound relaxation during the Carnival festivities was available only on the last day of Carnival, Vijaibab had a smooth sailing on all days. It isn’t clear whether the men-in-uniform provided level playing field to organisers of Carnival festivities across the State or whether there’s something more than that that meets the eye. Any questions?

Turf war in Nuvem: Minister versus MP over road project

When it comes to Nuvem, Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira apparently thinks and believes that he is the supreme commander on his home turf. And, when the South Goa MP, Captain Viriatobab Fernandes took up cudgels for residents on the issue of improvement of the Agnel Ashram-Carmel College road, the no nonsense Minister is believed to have gone hammer and thongs against officials for having filed a report based on a meeting chaired by the MP. Aleixobab, apparently, sent a message that he is in command of the constituency and not the Captain. Any questions?

B’day without a bang: Kamat’s Delhi visit raises eyebrows

Unlike the past, midnight birthday celebrations accompanied by fireworks and cutting of birthday cake, went missing at Malbhat this time round. Realisation later dawned on Margao MLA Diggu’s ardent supporters that their Baba along with family members is presently out of station. Inquiries only revealed that Diggu and family are presently in Delhi in connection with some personal engagement. Back home, however, there’s no stop to speculation whether Diggu’s presence in the national capital has anything to do with the much-awaited Cabinet rejig. Any takers?

Curtorim’s future: Will Captain’s call for change gain momentum?

What has Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco has to say to South Goa MP Captain Viriatbab’s statement that BJP’s rule has to end in Curtorim? The Captain was invited by Congress workers in Curtorim presently represented by the Independent MLA Reginaldbab for an interactive session during the weekend on issues plaguing the constituency. As if the Captain has descended on Curtorim battlefield for a surgical strike, Viriatbab thundered that BJP rule should be uprooted from Curtorim. The message seemed loud and clear for Curtorkars and Reginaldbab as well. Any questions?
