AAP’s solo run: Strategy or tit-for-tat politics?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 15, 2025, 12:36 AM IST

When AAP National leader Atishibai Marlena vowed to go solo in the upcoming Goa elections, many might have thought that AAP was resorting to tit-for-tat politics. For, it’s an open secret that the Congress had played spoilsport in a couple of seats in the Delhi Assembly polls, derailing AAP’s bid to retain power in the national capital. Atishibai, however, gave no indication that the party will pay the Congress in the same coin in Goa, least Goemkars perceives it as revenge politics. What better way to justify the decision to go solo than by raking up “trust deficit” factor, with Congress MLAs abandoning the ship almost every election. Interesting, isn’t it?

Cong treading cautious path over AAP’s solo decision

Guess the reaction in the Congress camp post-AAP leader Atishibai Marlena’s stand to go alone in the coming elections in Goa? Well, second-rung leaders seemed to have welcomed AAP’s decision to go solo with open arms, more so Congress leaders who have set their eyes on the Zilla Panchayat polls, besides the 2027 Assembly election. Party leadership, however, seemed treading a cautious path over the unfolding political developments, wary of the ground realities in many a constituency, especially in party fiefdom Saxttidom. Any questions?

Opposition vs Opposition? Vijai sounds alarm over vote split

Goa Forward Party chief Vijaibab Sardesai not only appears hopeful that the Opposition will jointly fight the 2027 Assembly election, but is of the opinion that the Opposition has no other option than to unite to defeat the BJP. The reason is obvious. In the event the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party decides to cross swords against each other in the elections, many say, Vijaibab may have to grapple with these two parties, vying for honours, in his fiefdom, Fatorda, raising the spectre of a split in the non-BJP vote to the advantage of saffron brigade. Any questions?

Reginaldo’s Lotus symbol rejection puts Curtorim BJP cadre in limbo

Curtorim BJP leaders and cadre have been left to wonder how the party leadership will go about the 2027 Assembly elections. Consider this. Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco is presently an alliance partner of the BJP. But, he has sent message loud and clear he would not contest the 2027 election on the Lotus symbol. Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant, on the other hand, had some time ago suggested that Reginaldbab has the option to seek re-election as an Independent. Local party leaders, including Dr Sneha Bhagwat and Tiatr Academy of Goa President Anthonybab Barbosa, besides others, keeping the party flag flying high in Curtorim, wonder what lies in store for them in the coming polls. Any takers?

Kamat’s son’s b’day celebration adds to ‘Holi Splash’ in Margao

Perhaps for the first time in recent times, the Margao MLA hosted Holi Splash at the spacious Navelim indoor stadium’s parking lot, coinciding with son’s birthday. Yogiraj cut his birthday cake in the midst of the Holi revellers, friends and well-wishers. The father-son duo has promised to organise Holi Splash on a much bigger scale next year. Any questions?
