Cabinet rejig: Will BJP prioritise performance or political strategy?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 22, 2025, 01:18 AM IST

As the stage seemed finally set for a Cabinet rejig, questions are asked in political circles over the criteria adopted by the BJP leadership to axe “non-performing” Ministers to pave way for the induction of new faces. Is the leadership looking for the Minister’s performance and deliverance or whether the party will give weightage for the Minister’s role in strengthening the party organisation? For, there may be a couple of Ministers, who have delivered the job with perfection, but have come under the party leadership’s lens over their inability to help expand the party base. Any questions?

Quepem Cong MLA’s cryptic remark on CM raises eyebrows

Congress Quepem MLA Altonbab has been in the news this week over his remarks that Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant has been frantically looking out for him and that the future can be decided at a later date. What was Altonbab trying to convey and for whom and that too right in front of the Chief Minister in his fiefdom. Was he trying to play to the gallery to express his gratitude to the Chief Minister for ushering development in Quepem or whether there’s something more than that that meets the eye? Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

Amit-Yuri-Altone trio faces scrutiny over party dynamics

The Amit-Yuri-Altone troika in the Congress has come under the lens post-remarks by party MLA Altonbab D’Costa earlier this week. For, the trio is considered one group, which has scuttled attempts in the last two years to effect change in the leadership in the PCC and CLP. Speculations were rife whether the Yuri-Altone duo will stay put in the Congress if any attempt is made to dislodge Amitbab from the PCC post. Political observers are on the job to find out whether Altonbab’s remark is a veiled threat that all options are open in the scheme of things if any attempt is made to disturb the status quo?

Cong troika’s critics push for action against Altone

Whether Congress MLA Altonbab D’Costa likes it or not, but one thing is clear that opponents of the Congress troika consisting of Amit-Yuri-Altone reportedly worked overtime to draw the High Command’s attention to his recent statement. Sources say Altone’s video that had gone viral was immediately forwarded to the party High Command, so much so certain local leaders have even called for disciplinary action.  Wait and watch.

Margao’s power play: Kamat, son and daughter-in-law in spotlight

Margao MLA Digambarbab Kamat seemed working to a plan to further strengthening his position in his fiefdom ahead of the upcoming elections. Madgavkars saw how Diggu and son Yogirajbab went about celebrating Holi in the city last week. That’s not all. Diggu’s daughter-in-law Nehabai was the cynosure of all eyes at the Margao Shigmo parade earlier this week. For, she led an impressive all women’s Romtamel float by mobilising womenfolk from across the city, giving a platform to women to showcase their talents at Shigmo parade. Any questions?
