Chief Minister’s statement that political considerations other than performance may also carry weight when the party goes for the Cabinet rejig has only thrown up speculations whether performing Ministers will be shown the door to make way for new comers in the Cabinet. This has thrown up a question or two – who amongst the performing Ministers might still face the axe if they do not fit in the political scheme of things in the BJP. Guess who amongst the Congress turncoats will get the much-awaited reward for defection to the BJP two years ago on September 14, 2022? Well, the names of former Chief Minister Diggu, former Minister Michaelbab Lobo, besides Sankalpbab Amonkar has been doing the rounds in political circles. Of the eight Congress turncoats, Nuvem MLA Aleixobab Sequeira was inducted in the Cabinet more than a year ago. Congress-turned-BJP Nuvem MLA, Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira seemed to have not forgotten how the Congress leadership made him to wait before his candidature was cleared in the 2022 election. While fielding a volley of questions on plans to contest the 2027 election on the BJP ticket, Aleixobab was clear in saying the ticket is confirmed only as and when it is allotted by the party. Though considered a political heavyweight in the Congress, Aleixobab had to wait for some time before his ticket was confirmed by the High Command in 2022. Any questions?
BJP infighting: Damu’s silence on Margao tax hike raises questions
Has BJP State president Damubab Naik anything to say on the BJP-controlled Margao Municipal Council’s decision to hike fees and taxes on services in the commercial capital? Well, Damubab’s close aide, BJP-backed Margao Municipal Councillor Camilbab Barretto has raised a banner of revolt against the hike in taxes, even going to the extent of saying the BJP-backed civic body should roll back the hike. Camilbab’s stand on the MMC fee hike has only thrown up a question or two whether he had kept party leaders, including Damubab, in the loop before airing his views to the media. Any questions?

Margao MLA Diggu seemed maintaining stoic silence on the storm brewing against the Margao Municipal Council over the hike in taxes and fees on services. None other than the Margao MLA knows for sure that the citizens’ protest backed by the Opposition Congress and Goa Forward Party may not augur well for the party in an election year with Municipal polls due in 2026.
