Congress camps on edge as Manikrao issues stern warning

THE GOAN NETWORK | MARCH 23, 2025, 12:31 AM IST

Congress General Secretary Goa in-charge, Manikrao Thakare has come and gone, but his message that the party will not brook any indiscipline has become a subject matter of debate in Congress circles and outside. One, rival camps in the Congress have begun to wonder what prompted Manikrao to issue a stern warning that indiscipline will have no place in the party. Leaders in rival camps in private say that Manikrao’s warning is virtually an indictment of what’s going on in the two camps. Any questions?

Opposition unity at risk? AAP and Cong on different paths

First, Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishibai Marlena thundered that AAP will go solo in the upcoming Goa elections. And, now Congress Goa Secretary Anjalibai Nimbalkar virtually blamed AAP and TMC for the split in the non-BJP votes in the 2022 election, to the advantage of the saffron brigade. So far so good, one may say. Political observers, however, wonder whether these statements augur well for Opposition unity and whether it would in any way help to dislodge the BJP in the upcoming polls. Indeed time for introspection.

Cabinet rejig rumours swirl as Aleixo calls off Friday Darbar

When Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira called off his weekly Friday Darbar, it became a talking point amongst officials and scribes. With the much-talked about Cabinet rejig the flavour of the season, many believed whether the heavyweight Minister has been called by the party leadership before realisation dawned that Aleixobab called off the Friday Darbar as he was busy with a court matter. Aleixobab is the lone Minister from minority Saxtti in the Pramodbab Sawant dispensation. He has come under the lens of political observers since the time Diggu’s name has found mention in political circles for a Cabinet berth. Any questions?

Churchill eyes Benaulim in 2027 polls, rules out family candidacy

Varca strongman Bab Churchill was in the news this week after he made a candid admission about his plan to contest the 2027 Assembly election from Benaulim if health permits. With exactly two years to go for the Assembly polls, Churchillbab’s message seemed loud and clear that neither son Savio nor any of his family members would contest from Benaulim. What about nephew Warren Alemao, who seemed leaving no stone unturned to reach out to the constituents of Benaulim as he seemed to have firmly set his eyes on the 2027 elections. Wait and watch.

Saffron surge in Curtorim? BJP’s silent strategy unfolds

Guess BJP’s game plan in Curtorim constituency represented by party coalition partner Reginaldbab Lourenco? This question did the rounds in Curtorim when the BJP not only got its mandal headed by Dr Snehabai Bhagwat installed but sent a message that the saffron brigade will emerge as a force to reckon within the constituency. What exactly is BJP’s game plan in Curtorim – is the party hoping for a situation a la Cuncolim in 2012 and Navelim in 2022 where the Lotus bloomed in these two seats purely due to a split in the non-BJP vote? Or, is the party gearing to play a strategic role with the sole purpose of denying the seat to the Congress. You know how. Any questions?
