Damu’s office shut, but footfall grows post BJP appointment

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | APRIL 06, 2025, 12:57 AM IST

Since his defeat in the 2022 Assembly election at the hands of arch rival, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, two-time former Fatorda MLA Damubab Naik had shut down the shutter of his office. Despite the office closure, party workers and well-wishers continued to flock to him for work since then. Post-appointment as BJP State president, the number of people visiting Damubab Naik has only seen an increase, throwing up a question or two whether the former MLA would re-open his office or would wait for an opportune time to do so, may be in the run up to the 2027 polls. Wait and watch.

AAP signals solo intent with S Goa office launch, Statewide outreach

The Congress may suddenly realise that the Aam Aadmi Party is on the job to strengthen party base across the State. Consider this. The party has opened its South Goa office by none other than party top leader Atishibai Marlena, who took the platform to send a message loud and clear that the party will go solo in the upcoming Goa polls. Now, party strategist Pankaj Gupta is moving across the State, with an avowed objective to expand the party base. If sources are to be believed, the party is on the job to build a second rung leadership to shoulder added responsibilities in the future. Wait and watch.

Congress delay in Margao block reconstitution raises eyebrows

Diggu’s ardent supporters appeared upbeat over reports that their Baba would soon get a Cabinet berth in the Pramodbab Sawant dispensation. Congress workers, on the other hand, seemed groping in the dark over party’s inordinate delay in re-constituting the Margao Congress block since the time Diggu had quit the party to embrace the saffron brigade two and half years ago. Indeed, Margao Congress workers have been left to wonder who’s responsible behind the delay – the Party High Command, the State Congress leadership or simply vested interests not keen in strengthening the party in Diggu’s fiefdom. Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

After a brief lull, Vijai is back with the ‘Sawantwadi’ taunt

After a brief lull, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai has resumed his attacks on the Pramodbab Sawant dispensation as the “Sawantwadi” government. While addressing parents agitating against the new academic year, Vijaibab took the Lohia Maidan platform to slam the “Sawantwadi” government for the ills plaguing the State. For some time now, one did not hear the Goa Forward chief referring the BJP government as “Sawantwadi” Sarkar. But, with relations between the duo at an all-time low, Vijaibab is back again with the Sawantwadi taunt. You know why.

Ajgaonkar reveals BJP strategy behind 2022 Margao contest

This may sound reading interesting. Former BJP Dy CM Babu Ajgaonkar now says there was a reason behind the party’s decision to field him against Diggu in Margao in the 2022 Assembly election. If Babu is to be believed, the party had literally forced him to cross swords against Diggu in Margao in order to stop the then Congress leader from moving freely in other Assembly constituencies to drum up support for Congress candidates. It is a strange coincidence that Diggu is now back in the BJP and bracing up for a Cabinet berth, while Babu plans to return to Pernem in the 2027 polls. Any takers?
