DNA row: When Aleixo’s statement invited wrath from saffron brigade

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | OCTOBER 12, 2024, 12:46 AM IST

It was a week when scribes wondered what prompted Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira to call for an urgent media briefing late Monday night. Against the backdrop of intense speculations on Cabinet reshuffle, scribes tried to figure out what was the briefing all about. Realisation later dawned that the DNA bug has hit the Saxtti political heavyweight as well. Hours after he stated that DNA of St Francis Xavier runs in every Goan, inviting wrath from the saffron brigade, Aleixobab was anxious to clarify what exactly he meant by his DNA statement.

Was Aleixo told to apologise, or has he done on his own volition?

The clarification issued by Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira over his remarks that the DNA of St Francis Xavier runs in every Goan may be understandable since the heavyweight was keen to cap the controversy over the issue. Political observers, however, have been trying to figure out what prompted the political heavyweight to tender an apology for those hurt by his statements, throwing up a moot question whether Aleixobab was told to tender an apology or has done so on his own volition to cap the storm brewing over his statement within the saffron brigade. Any questions?

BJP spokesperson slams Aleixo, but silent on Ajgaonkar’s stand

Saxtti lone Minister Aleixobab Sequeira had to face the fury of party spokesman Girirajbab Pai Vernekar on his DNA remark. Has the saffron leadership anything to say on party leader and ex-DyCM Babu Ajgaonkar’s support to the protesters demanding FIR against Subhash Velingkar. Well, Babu Ajgaonkar seemed the lone senior leader, who not only made common cause with the protesters, but demanded an FIR against Velingkar. Babu received a thunderous applause when he personally came down on the streets in support of the protesters in Margao. Any questions, Sadanandbab Tanavade?

After Haryana debacle, all eyes on AAP-Cong alliance in Goa

Aam Aadmi Party national leadership was quick to blame the Congress for the electoral debacle in Haryana. The reasons could be varied, including the prime reason that the Congress did not stitch an alliance with AAP in Haryana. Does the Haryana episode hold out any message for the Congress and AAP in Goa? Both Congress and AAP jointly fought the 2024 Lok Sabha polls followed by the Benaulim ZP polls under INDI Alliance banner and emerged victorious. The two parties seemed to have now drawn up strategies to strengthen their respective party organisations across the State with Mission 2027 in mind. Any takers?

A week passed, but no action yet in scribe lathicharge episode

Have the men-in-uniform identified the erring policemen, who led the attack on the photo-journalist during the Old Market lathi charge on protesters demanding arrest of Subhash Velingkar. Leave alone any action, scribes wonder whether the police have identified the erring police behind the attack. The video footage shows how the policemen lead the assault precisely because the photographer is a media person. Can’t the police higher ups identify the erring cops based on the footage? What if the passer-by had to record the incident on his cell phone camera, exposing the men-in-uniform for the assault on scribes discharging their professional duties? Many a question remains unanswered as a week has passed since the incident occurred last Sunday.
