Ignored for South Goa ticket, Cong trio stay on sidelines

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | APRIL 13, 2024, 01:18 AM IST

How would Cong MP Francisbab Sardinha, ex-Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girishbab Chodankar and bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvisbab Gomes go about the ensuing election after losing the race for the Congress ticket for the South Goa seat? Well, after his plea for the ticket found no takers, Sardinhbab is on record saying that he would not join the party election campaign. Girishbab, on the other hand, has only made a token presence at the party’s programme and campaign after being ignored for the ticket. And, Elvisbab has not stopped attacking the party leadership, even calling the top leaders as three idiots? Wait and watch.

Old rivals to new cheerleaders, troika on 'Mission Saxtti' for BJP

It’s a sheer coincidence that the BJP campaign in minority Salcete is being led by a former Congress chief minister in Digambarbab Kamat and his then Congress cabinet colleague Aleixobab Sequeira, besides then Congress MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco. For, the troika, who were once the face of the Congress for full five years between 2007-12 are now the torchbearers of BJP’s fight in Saxttidom. The trio apparently are on the job to get some extra votes for the saffron brigade. Wait and watch whether the trio will succeed in achieving the targets set by the saffron leadership in the minority stronghold.

In the heat of elections, lime soda go-to drink for politicos

While moving in the lanes and bylanes of Margao’s congested New market, BJP leaders led by Diggu and block president Rupeshbab Mahatme accompanying party candidate Pallavibai Dempo took a break at a cold drink stall to quench their thirst after a gruelling and hectic campaign. It's election time and it’s not uncommon for politicos to make a halt in the markets or roadsides as part of a campaign. While Diggu and others refreshed themselves with a fresh lime soda, Pallavibai preferred to have a sip of mineral water. The battle has just begun.

Congress 'boys' have all the fun during Margao market hopping

Congress candidate Captain Viriatbab Fernandes and the team of Congress leaders turned out no different when they descended on the Margao New market earlier this week. Party's Quepem MLA Altonbab D’Costa, who recently displayed his skills in cracking open raw cashew nuts, laid his hands on fresh 'Bibe' in the New market. As the team wend their way into the market lanes, Altonbab again made a halt at another stall, this time feeding a piece of jaggery to the Congress candidate, wishing him the very best in the ensuing hustings. Any takers?

What's Vijai up to? All eyes on returning GFP chief

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai is finally expected to return home from his London sojourn on Sunday. Vijaibab was initially scheduled to return on April 10 but is believed to have extended his stay by a couple of days. Given that the Goa Forward has extended support to the INDIA bloc candidate for South Goa, it would be interesting to see how Vijaibab will go about his campaign -- whether he would restrict himself in his fiefdom Fatorda or go all the way campaigning for Captain Viriatbab Fernandes across the South Goa, including neighbouring Margao. Let's see how it turns out.
