INDIA bloc under the lens over Sunburn in South

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JULY 21, 2024, 12:17 AM IST

The INDI Alliance has come under the lens of political observers over the controversial Sunburn festival. Reason: Even as Congress leaders have unveiled plans to oppose the festival tooth and nail, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders came in strength to back a movement launched by concerned citizens of Goa to oppose Sunburn in South. That AAP chief Amitbab Palekar, AAP MLA Cruzbab Silva, Valmikibab Naik and other prominent AAP leaders joined the protest in front of the South Goa Collectorate on Saturday indicates that AAP has thrown its weight behind the concerned citizens. Wait and watch how the Congress would go about the agitation against Sunburn.

Cong baffled over disruption of NEP debate in Assembly

Congress party leaders appear sore that the National Education Policy (NEP) did not come up for discussion on Day One of the Goa Legislative Assembly. Sources say the Congress leadership was hoping that the question tabled by party Aldona MLA Carlosbab Alvares would be deliberated in the House during the Question Hour. What seemed to have raised many an eyebrow in the Congress party was the manner in which the Question Hour was disrupted. That Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai later told the media that the disruption of Question Hour was a deliberate attempt to sabotage discussion on the NEP has left many a question unanswered. Interesting isn’t it?

Questions over delay in Margao Cong block chief appointment

The recently held Lok Sabha election results had rung in good news for Congress workers and sympathisers in Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu’s fiefdom Margao.  Buoyed by the election result, Congress workers and well-wishers now seemed raring to take the battle in Diggu’s camp. Questions, however, are being raised in Congress circles over the delay by the party leadership to appoint a president to head the Margao block. No doubt, the Congress had initially struggled to reconstitute the block after Diggu left the party to embrace the BJP with lock, stock and barrel. Why the endless delay in appointing a block president still remains a mystery when a couple of names were suggested to the party leadership. Wait and watch.

Vijai dispels ‘match fixing’ rumours over viral hug

What’s in a hug, questioned Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai as he explained to scribes that the hug given by Tourism Minister Rohanbab Khaunte after the Goa Assembly Session was just a hug and not match fixing. With Khaunte’s hug going viral raising questions over relationship between the treasury benches and Opposition, Vijaibab sought to dispel any notion that members are into any match fixing. He reminded how former Chief Minister late Dayanand Bandodkar and Opposition leader Dr Jack de Sequeira used to fight inside the House on issues, but maintained civility outside. Any takers?

Oppn slammed for inaction amid airlines shift to Mopa airport

Has the Opposition any plan in the offing other than issuing statements condemning shifting of operations by airlines from Dabolim to the International airport at Mopa? For, every time, an airline unveils plan to shift its operations to Mopa, the Opposition loses no time to slam the government and the Ministers reassuring the people that Dabolim will never be shut down. After Air Arabia unveiled plans earlier this week to shift operations to Mopa, a sense of let down was palpable on the social media, with the Opposition questioned whether they will do something more than issuing statements, including highway blockade and rail roko to stop the airlines from shifting to Mopa. Many a question still remains unanswered.
