As curtains finally came down on the Monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, members and leaders of Opposition parties appear a satisfied lot over the performance of their MLAs in the just concluded session. Goa Forward leaders were the first to rush to the media to compliment party lone MLA Vijaibab Sardesai for his performance in the Assembly. So were AAP leaders who congratulated its two MLAs for highlighting issues plaguing Goa. Leader of Opposition Yuribab Alemao as well as RG’s lone MLA Vireshbab Borkar too expressed their satisfaction over the Opposition’s role. Any questions? Well, wait for a post mortem.
Post-Assembly session, all eyes on Vijai’s next move
Post-Assembly session, many a political observer may ask the same old question -- what’s next on the political agenda of Fatorda MLA Vijaibab Sardesai and the Goa Forward Party he is heading? Well, with a little over two years to go for the 2027 Assembly election, observers wonder how would Vijaibab go about the coming polls, whether he would again go to the people on the regional party platform or tie-up with the main Opposition party as part of the INDI Alliance or be a part of the bigger non-BJP platform to dislodge the ruling party. Wait and watch.
Political rift? Vijai’s plans to visit Curchorem sparks speculation
They seemed to have enjoyed the best of relations. When Nilesbab Cabral was dumped by CM Pramodbab Sawant to make way for Aleixobab Sequeira a year ago, Vijaibab spoke highly about the Curchorem MLA. The war of words between the Vijai-Cabral duo on the floor of the Assembly on the last day of the current session left many a political observer to wonder whether relations between them have come under strain. For, Vijaibab has unveiled on the floor of the House to visit Curchorem, Cabralbab’s home constituency to hold a meeting. Will Vijaibab execute his threat? Wait and watch.
Churchill promises to unveil ‘true facts’ of Konkani agitation in book
Even as former CM Luizinhbab Faleiro has released his book on the historic agitations on Konkani and statehood, Kumpar Churchillbab Alemao has said it would be a matter of some months before his book on the language agitation is ready for a launch. What’s, however, important to note is that Churchillbab has promised to bring the “true facts” of the Konkani agitation before the people of Goa. What are these facts the Varca strongman is talking about? And whether these facts had never brought to light in the last three decades and half? Wait and watch.
Wilfred’s moves under lens as his influence grows in Nuvem
Ex-Nuvem MLA Wilfred aka Babashan seemed to have maintained his stranglehold over the Nuvem village panchayat. This became evident in the recent elections held for the vacant post of deputy Sarpanch. While wife Fredabai D’Sa is presiding over the Nuvem village panchayat, the new deputy Sarpanch Lindabai Pereira is aligned to the Babashan camp. The former Congress-turned-BJP MLA, who later quit the saffron brigade to contest as an Independent in 2022 is under the lens of political observers – how will he go about his political career? This question assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that Babashan had openly supported Captain Viriatbab Fernandes in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Any questions?
