Period of silence or strategic pause? Saxtti’s bigwigs maintain low key

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JULY 28, 2024, 12:35 AM IST

Where have all the political heavyweights and veterans from Saxttidom gone? Have they gone into hibernation or have called it a day in politics? Or, will they make a comeback at the opportune time? Well, nothing has been heard from heavyweights, including former Chief Ministers, Luizinhbab Faleiro, Franciscbab Sardinha and Churchillbab Alemao. That’s not all. Former Ministers and MLAs including Filipe Neribab, Mickkybab Pacheco, Wilfredbab, Clafaciobab all seemed maintaining low key during the monsoon. Amongst them, Luizinhbab seemed busy preoccupied with his second book, while nothing has been heard from ex-MP Sardinhbab after Captain Viriatbab’s election to the Lok Sabha. Any questions?

Will IDC’s decision on Sunburn end Cong, AAP game of one-upmanship?

With Quitol no more the venue for the Sunburn music festival, the IDC Board’s decision will hopefully put a stop to the game of one-upmanship amongst Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. For, both the Congress and AAP, both INDI Alliance partners were bracing up to launch an agitation against Sunburn. If the Congress led by district  party chief Saviobab D’Silva, a resident of Velim, unveiled plans against Sunburn, Velim MLA Cruzbab Silva along with AAP district chief Gersonbab Gomes too hit the ground to oppose Sunburn, but under the banner of Concerned Citizens of Goa, throwing up questions whether the two alliance partners would part ways over Sunburn. Any questions?

Cong workers charged up, want MLAs to take on govt in Assembly

Congress leaders may suddenly realise that expectations of the party rank and file have gone up to corner the Pramod Sawant government on the mat in the ongoing Assembly session. With Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi leading the charge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi post-2024 Lok Sabha polls, Congress workers back home in Goa also expect the party MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Yuribab Alemao to fire all cylinders at the BJP government. The sudden charged up atmosphere amongst Congress rank and file is attributed to the party’s comeback in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Any questions?

Venzy’s idea of floating market at Khareband comes under scanner

The idea floated by Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas to have a floating market at River Sal at Khareband has come under the scanner of political observers. It’s true that boats used to ship roof tiles from distant places right up to the Khareband bridge during the glorious days of River Sal, Saxtti’s lifeline. Incidentally, Venzybab’s counterpart from Margao, Cong-turned-BJP MLA Diggu too had floated a similar idea for starting water sports facilities at the river Sal near Khareband bridge. Both Venzy and Diggu had over a year vowed and taken a pledge to restore River Sal to its pristine glory. Any questions?

It’s time for govt to pass ST quota bill, not make speeches, says Cong

It was a week when BJP State President, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanandbab Tanavade won accolades from party ST cell for raising the contentious issue of political reservations for the ST communities in Parliament. BJP ST leaders showered praises on the Rajya Sabha MP for speaking on the issue, saying it should silence the Opposition targeting the ruling party. Congress, however, has asserted that the time for making speeches on ST political reservations is over, demanding that the BJP now walk the talk by passing the Bill in Parliament. Will the BJP accept the gauntlet and table a Bill for political reservations for the STs in Goa. Wait and watch.
