Questions over Cong’s hasty move on Benaulim ZP by-poll decision

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 15, 2024, 01:10 AM IST

Why did the Congress act in haste in announcing support to the Aam Aadmi Party for the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-poll? This question has come to haunt the party leadership as reports emanating from Saxtti’s coastal belt reveal that local Benaulim Congress members were all in favour of contesting the by-poll independently. The block had even suggested couple of names of candidates, but the party rushed to announce the tie-up with AAP under the INDI Alliance banner. Who were the Congress leaders, who were anxious and keen to have a tie-up with AAP and for what reason? Many a question still remains unanswered.

Will Digambar’s setback in Moti Dongor impact son’s political bid?

After news trickled in from the counting centre that Congress-turned-BJP Diggu has lost his grip over Moti Dongor and the migrant basties, questions were raised over the  future of the seven-time Margao MLA. There’s another question now doing the rounds in political circles – how the former Chief Minister will go about his plan to introduce son Yogiraj into politics. With Kamat’s core voter base, the Moti Dongor and the migrant basties, having come under strain, questions are indeed raised in the lanes and by-lanes whether Diggu will go ahead and launch Yogiraj in the 2027 Assembly election. Wait and watch.

Aleixo reasserts authority with renewed vigour at South darbar

Those who thought that Saxtti lone Mantri Aleixobab Sequeira would no longer hold his weekly darbar at the South collectorate after the Lok Sabha poll debacle came in for a big surprise. The political heavyweight not only made his presence felt at the Minister’s chamber in the district Collectorate, but took a review of the past instructions with renewed vigour. The manner in which Aleixobab went about conducting the darbar has sent indications that he is still in command and enjoys trust and confidence of Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and the BJP leadership. Any questions?

What’s next for former MLAs Radharao, Mickky and Wilfred?

The dust kicked up over the Lok Sabha election has finally settled down, with Captain Viriatbab Fernandes making it to the Lok Sabha. Questions, however, are doing the rounds in Nuvem countryside how former MLAs Radharaobab Gracias, Mickkybab Pacheco and Wilfredbab D’Sa aka Babashan would go about with their political career.  For, the three former MLAs, not members of the Congress, had rallied behind Captain Viriatbab in the recently held election. Of the trio, Radharaobab may no longer be interested in electoral politics, but both Mickky-Wilfred duo may still nurse hopes of making a political comeback in 2027. The question that remains unanswered is under which party banner? Will the Congress throw open the doors for these two former MLAs. Wait and watch.
