Saffron politics at play? Shripad’s statement sparks speculation

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | FEBRUARY 15, 2025, 01:14 AM IST

It’s a sheer coincidence that when the name of Shripad bhau Naik became a talking point in political circles over the possibility of returning back to State politics after a long stint at the Centre, the Union Minister offered his comments on the controversial Bainguinim waste treatment plant. Shripadbhau’s comments on waste management plant, even questioning the logic behind the location of the proposed plant near the Old Goa heritage site, besides other local issues, whether anything is cooking in the saffron brigade. Wait and watch.

Benaulim Congress firm against AAP tie-up, State leaders silent

Post-Delhi election results, Benaulim Block Congress Committee’s message was loud and clear – no more tie-ups with Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in Goa? What’s the take of Congress leaders, including Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao and GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar to Benaulim Block Congress Committee’s stand on future tie-up with AAP? Well, nothing has been heard from the top brass of the Goa Congress over the unfolding political developments post-Delhi result. Wait and watch.

Tit-for-tat? Venzy fires back at Congress over alliance snub

What exactly did Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas say when he thundered that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had played its due role if Captain Viriatbab Fernandes is today found moving around the State as the South Goa MP? Well, political observers say the seaman-turned-politician has apparently sought to remind the Congress that AAP has also played its own role in Capt Viriatbab’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election – a clear message to the Congress camp not to undermine AAP’s capability in Goa. Indeed, a tit-for-tat reaction by the Benaulim MLA in his inimitable fashion to the Benaulim Block Congress Committee’s stand against any Cong-AAP tie-up in Goa in future polls.

‘Govt to villages’ or just Nuvem? Aleixo’s outreach questioned

Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira’s stand that his village-wise visits in his home constituency Nuvem is in tune with Prime Minister Narendrabai Modi’s mantra “government to the villages”, makes reading interesting. Aleixobab went to the town to say that his weekly darbars in Nuvem villages is part of PM Modi’s mantra, political observers, wonder, why similar interactive sessions are not seen or heard in constituencies represented by his Ministerial colleagues. What about the constituencies, which have neither a Minister nor a ruling MLA? Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

With mining cases behind him, is Digambar ready for a bigger role?

Discharge of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambarbab Kamat in the mining case will certainly come as a booster for the former Congress Chief Minister as he braces up to play an important innings in the saffron brigade. This is the second mining case where Diggu has been discharged by the trial court. The cases were filed against Diggu and others by the SIT constituted by the BJP regime that came back to power in 2012 after the ouster of the Congress dispensation. Diggu has been waiting for a Cabinet berth for two years now. Wait and watch.
