Sawant’s taunt at Colva event raises eyebrows

THE GOAN NETWORK | JANUARY 19, 2025, 12:42 AM IST

What exactly did Chief Minister Pramod Sawant try to convey when he made a remark at Colva that some persons have the habit of speaking one thing and then do exactly the opposite. After AAP Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas drew a parallel between CM Pramodbab and Bhausaheb Bandodkar earlier this week at Colva, the Chief Minister later in his address took the compliment, by saying he does not discriminate between Opposition and ruling MLAs’ constituencies on the development front. Without taking names, CM’s taunt that some persons say one thing and do exactly the opposite indeed later became a talking point. Any questions?

Benaulim AAP MLA’s remark comes under party scanner

Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim MLA Venzybab’s remarks correlating CM Pramodbab Sawant to Goa’s first CM late Bhausaheb Bandodkar seemed to have brought him under the party scanner. Coming as it does in the run up to the crucial Delhi Assembly elections where AAP is locked in a ding-dong battle with the BJP, party leadership seemed wary whether the BJP will capitalise on Venzybab’s remarks in the ensuing polls with the saffron brigade going all out to regain power in the national capital. Back home, Venzybab’s remarks seemed to have also not gone down well with a section of local party leadership, as they are on the job to assess its fallout on the party, which enjoys the support base amongst the minorities.

Strategic move? Churchill mum over Venzy’s remark

Expectedly, Benaulim AAP MLA Venzybab Viegas came under fire from political opponents for drawing a parallel between CM Pramodbab Sawant and Goa’s first CM late Bhausaheb Bandodkar. Known political opponents, including Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixonbab Vaz, Warrenbab Alemao and others lost no time to fire guns at the AAP MLA. Varca strongman Bab Churchill, however, seemed to maintain silence on the development. Call it a strategy or otherwise, even when the media approached Churchillbab, he is believed to have politely declined to offer any comment. Any takers?

Venzy controversy: Aleixo fishing in troubled waters

Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira is one senior politician, who would normally not prefer to offer comments on controversial political developments. The seasoned Minister apparently tried to fish in troubled waters when his political foe, Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas courted controversy over his remarks on CM Pramodbab Sawant and Goa’s first CM Bhausaheb Bandodkar. In his inimitable fashion, Aleixobab sought to know why AAP is fighting BJP in the Delhi election when AAP MLA Venzybab has given a certificate for CM Pramodbab Sawant. Any questions?

Suspense over Lohia Maidan booking on Opinion Poll Day

Hazard a guess how come the Congress leadership preferred to hold the Opinion Poll Day celebrations in Ambelim village instead at the historic Lohia Maidan, Margao? Well, strange it may seem but true that the Lohia Maidan was booked well in advance in the month of December. When Congress leader Saviobab Coutinho and others went to the Margao Municipal Council to book the Lohia Maidan for the January 16 Opinion Poll Day celebration, they were told that the Maidan is already booked on that date. It’s not yet known who had booked the Lohia Maidan and why no function took place on January 16 at the venue. Interesting, isn’t it?
