South Goa triumph: Will Amit-Yuri duo solidify their leadership roles?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 09, 2024, 12:58 AM IST

Post-June 4 Lok Sabha results, a question has started doing the rounds in Congress camp and outside whether the Congress duo comprising of GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar and Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao has cemented their position following Captain Viriatbab’s victory from South Goa. The Amit-Yuri duo along with Congress MLA Altonbab D’Costa and MP-elect Viriatbab Fernandes were in Delhi during the weekend as they called on the Congress national leadership post-results. The Amit-Yuri camp says the Congress leadership is pleased that the party has retained the South Goa seat. Will the election result help the duo to cement their positions? Wait and watch.

Calls for action against Sardinha grow louder by the day

As the Congress retained the South Goa Lok Sabha seat in style, voices are heard loud and clear within the Congress demanding disciplinary action against MP Francisbab Sardinha. Reason: Many a Congressman say Sardinhbab had not only boycotted the LS campaign, but must have called up many of his well-wishers, predicting Captain Viriatbab’s defeat by a margin of 40,000 votes. The Congress leadership had treaded a cautious path during the campaign on handling the MP, fearing that any hasty action may leave Sardinhbab’s well-wishers antagonised. With the party retaining South Goa, voices for action against the MP seemed growing louder by the day. Wait and watch.

Digambar blames ‘fatwa’ for Margao LS election results

Guess what’s Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu’s take on the BJP’s debacle in his fiefdom, Margao in the Lok Sabha election? Well, one may be tempted to attribute the BJP wafer thin lead in Margao to the combined efforts put in by Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, Congress leader Saviobab Coutinho and his team, besides others, including Diggu’s former election agents. But, pose the question to Diggu and do not be surprised if the Margao MLA has attributed the stunning result to a ‘fatwa’, throwing up a question as to who had issued the fatwa and for whom. Any questions?

With Margao MLA with the govt, Moti Dongor result stuns BJP

Original BJP leaders in Margao and outside may envy the LS election result in MLA Diggu’s fiefdom.

The reason is not far to seek. The saffron brigade had tried to storm the migrant basties in Margao, including Moti Dongor umpteen numbers of times over the years, when Diggu was in the Congress, but in vain. Even former Minister late Manohar Parrikar’s magic could not sway the voters from the basties to the BJP as the people there stood like a rock behind Diggu. That Moti Dongor fort finally crumbled must have not only stunned Diggu, but the saffron brigade, but for a different reason. Any takers?

Who deserves credit for BJP’s 5,787 votes in Curtorim?

The massive lead secured by the Congress in Curtorim represented by Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco has been a subject of discussions in Saxtti political circles. There’s another debate of sorts presently underway in the saffron brigade – who should get the credit for 5,787 votes polled by Pallavibai Dempo in Curtorim – the Independent MLA or the BJP workers led by ST leader Anthonybab Barbosa and others. For, the BJP workers say they had slogged on the ground, campaigning door-to-door in support of the BJP candidate. Questions are asked how come Pallavibai ended up in polling 5,787 votes if both the Independent MLA and the BJP workers had worked hard for the BJP. Indeed time for introspection.

Venzy working overtime for Benaulim ZP by-election

With ex-Naval captain Viriatbab Fernandes making it to Parliament from South Goa, Merchant Navy Captain, MLA Venzybab Viegas seemed working overtime in his fiefdom Benaulim ahead of the June 23 Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-election. With the Congress leaving the Benaulim ZP seat to AAP as part of INDI Alliance, the Benaulim MLA has been mobilising people for the ensuing battle. Benaulikars had turned up in thousands to cast their vote for India Alliance candidate Capt Viriatbab in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls. Venzybab may certainly look forward to tap the feel good factor generated over Viriatbab’s LS victory to help AAP retain the Benaulim ZP seat. Wait and watch.
