Sunburn threw a costly ‘bomb’ on Opposition

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | DECEMBER 14, 2024, 01:08 AM IST

Opposition Congress seemed feeling the heat over their opposition to the Sunburn music festival, but for a different reason. After the organisers dragged Congress leaders, including Opposition leader Yuribab Alemao, South Goa MP Viriatbab Fernandes and others in the High Court of Bombay, the legal battle seemed to have cost the party a bomb. If sources are to be believed, Opposition leader Yuribab Alemao is believed to have foot the bill of the lawyers, running into lakhs of rupees. The show must go on. Any questions?

Cong rethinks future ties with AAP ahead of 2025 ZP polls

The Congress rank and file is making a strong pitch not to stitch any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in the future. The Congress leadership in Goa might be playing safe on the contentious question of a tie-up with AAP. But, the second rung Congress leadership, right from the district level down to the block committees, the mood amongst these leaders is clear that the Congress should not enter in any tie-up with AAP in future elections, beginning with the 2025 Zilla Panchayat polls. What has gone wrong between the two parties’ post 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-polls. Indeed time for introspection.

Suspense continues over Cabinet rejig this month

Will the much-speculated Cabinet rejig take place ahead of the ensuing Christmas season? Or, will Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant wait for the New Year to effect changes in his Cabinet. Even the Opposition parties seemed closely monitoring the developments in the ruling dispensation. In fact, if sources are to be believed, speculation is rife in the Opposition camp that the Cabinet rejig may be tentatively held on December 20-21. Interestingly, nothing concrete has been heard from the ruling dispensation on the Cabinet rejig till date.

Mystery MLAs from South Goa set sights on CM position

Guess the names of the two ruling MLAs from South Goa, who have set their eyes on the prized CM’s kodel? Well, while CM Pramodbab Sawant’s arch political rival is well known in political circles, observers in private say there are at least two MLAs from down South, who have set their eyes on the Chief Minister’s chair. Who are these two MLAs, and do they enjoy enough political clout in the echelons of power in Delhi? No reward for the right guess as political observers have been trying to figure out the game plan of these two MLAs. Wait and watch.

PCB’s surprise visit to Benaulim scrapyard raises eyebrows

Officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) headed by Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira has finally descended on the banks of River Sal, not to check the sewage flow in the river, but to verify the activities of a scrapyard in Benaulim, the constituency represented by AAP MLA Venzy Viegas. In fact, Benaulikars are trying to figure out whether the GSPCB initiative is just a routine inspection, or whether there is something more than meets the eye. You know why.
