Have the Opposition MLAs finally buried their hatchet as they played unity tunes ahead of the ensuing two-day session of the Goa Legislative Assembly? Only time will tell, but one thing seemed clear that the Opposition MLAs are hit by the trust deficit bug. Sources in the know say the Opposition MLAs look at each other with suspicion, suspecting their close connections with the ruling dispensation. Making matters worse is the government taking up projects in the Opposition ruled constituencies, only fuelling suspicions over their relationship with CM Pramodbab Sawant. Any takers?
Aleixo’s position at risk amid BJP power play?
Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira is back in the cynosure of all eyes after Damubab Naik’s election as the BJP State president. In fact, questions are asked whether there’s any possibility of political equations changing in Saxttidom. Reason: Political observers wonder whether Damubab will push Cong-turned-Margao MLA Diggu’s candidature for a Ministerial berth as it suits him on two counts. One, sources say Diggu as a Minister will also help Damubab to strengthen the party in his fiefdom in the run up to the 2027 election. Secondly, none other than Damubab knows for sure the Saxtti lone Minister’s ties with bête noire Vijaibab Sardesai. Wait and watch.
Lull before the storm? Attempt to dislodge PCC chief not ruled out
There seemed a lull in the Congress camp over the Pradesh Congress Committee leadership issue. After a group of local Congress leaders air-dashed to the national capital last year, nothing much has been heard from the dissident group baying for GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar’s blood. Sources in the know, however, say that attempts to dislodge the PCC chief continues unabated, but on a low key. In fact, a dissident leader did not rule out the possibility of a storm brewing during the coming monsoon season. In the meantime, the Congress is bracing up to launch Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim and Jai Samvidhan on Republic Day from Margao.
2027 Assembly polls: Damu leaves door open for Fatorda battle
Will he or won’t he contest the 2027 Assembly election from Fatorda is a question doing the rounds in Fatorda countryside post-election of former MLA Damubab Naik as BJP State chief. What has fuelled speculations that Damubab may throw his hat in the election ring after he made a statement expressing his willingness to step aside in Fatorda if the party zero in on a candidate who can take on bête noire Vijaibab Sardesai. Political observers say the statement is clear that Damubab is not averse in crossing swords against the long-time political rival in 2027, but not before giving the party leadership the option to scout for a capable candidate. Wait and watch.
Goa leaders lend support to Delhi assembly poll campaign
Aam Aadmi Party leaders are shuttling between the National capital and Goa, as they have joined the party’s campaign for the Delhi Assembly election scheduled on February 5. AAP chief Amitbab Palekar and Velim MLA Cruzbab Silva were on the way back home after a round of campaigning. AAP Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas is expected to fly to Delhi by month-end, even as other party leaders including Gerson Gomes, Roque Mascarenhas, Prashant Naik are all holed up in Delhi, going about their work as per the party brief, including interacting with Goan families, besides voters from down South, settled in Delhi. Any questions?
