With curtains coming down on the Navratri festival culminating into the Dussehra festivities during the weekend, the same old question is back in political circles – when will Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant go for the long-awaited Cabinet reshuffle? Neither the Chief Minister nor the BJP leadership had denied reports of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle. The only question that now seems unanswered is the timing of the Cabinet rejig. Will Pramodbab effect the Cabinet reshuffle in the coming days or will it take place post-election for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Wait and watch.
Haryana defeat brings back memories of 2022 Goa debacle
Congress’ defeat in Haryana has only brought back bitter memories of the 2022 Goa Assembly election when the party had hoped to win the poll and return back to power after 10 years in opposition. As preliminary reports suggests that allotment of tickets to the favoured men of Chief Ministerial aspirants is one of the causes behind the Haryana debacle, Goa Congressmen recall how then party leaders had favoured their cronies by nominating candidates of their choice for obvious reasons. In fact, the Congress had lost half-a-dozen seats in Goa in 2022 primarily because of the tickets pocketed by Chief Ministerial aspirants? Any questions?
Mission Benaulim: Cong supporters gear up for 2025 ZP election battle
Congress sympathisers from coastal Benaulim reportedly went into a huddle at Varca earlier this week with an agenda “Mission Benaulim” in the 2025 Zilla Panchayat polls. The informal assembly of Congress supporters assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the Congress had left the Benaulim ZP seat for the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2024 ZP by-poll. The meeting further assumes significance against the backdrop of the fact that Congress’ decision to leave the Benaulim ZP seat to AAP had triggered discontentment amongst the party rank and file. The battle for the Benaulim ZP seat seemed to have started in right earnest. Any questions?
Shivaji’s legacy in Margao: Kamat navigates new challenges
Unveiling Chatrapati Shivaji’s portrait in the august Margao Municipal hall might have kept Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu in good stead for giving the Maratha Warrior his due place in the 118-year old heritage Municipal building. Diggu’s joy, however, may be shortlived, but for a different reason. In fact, the seven-time Margao MLA may have a task cut out – how to grapple with the demand by Yuv Sanjivani to the Margao civic body controlled by him, to install Shivaji’s statue in a public space adjoining the Municipal building. None other than Diggu knows for sure that the proposal may, sooner rather than later, kick up a row, which he can ill afford in the run-up to the 2027 polls. Wait and watch.
MMC’s plan for ‘coffee shop’ inside municipal garden raises eyebrows
Margao Municipal Council’s proposal to set up a “coffee shop” inside the Margao Municipal garden has raised many an eyebrow in the corridors of the Municipal building and outside. One, political observers are trying to figure out how and where did the coffee shop proposal originate, within the four walls of the civic body or outside and who’s the coffee shop’s chief architect? Madgavkars have still not forgotten how an abortive bid was made couple of months ago to set up a restaurant in the proposed multi-level parking plaza behind the Municipal building. Interesting, isn’t it?
