Yet another govt flip flop on private medical college

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JULY 27, 2024, 01:03 AM IST

Yet another flip flop by the government on the controversial proposal to set up a private medical college at the South Goa district hospital? Looked like going by the debate on the issue in the ongoing Assembly session. After the Opposition created a ruckus and tried to corner Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane on the controversy, a question is doing the rounds in health circles – who’s the real promoter of the private medical college in the government-run hospital. For, while CM Pramodbab Sawant had batted for the medical college in his budget speech, the Health Minister insists nothing is final yet. And, the flip flop over the private medical college continues. Wait and watch.

When Kamat skipped question on private medical college

When Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu was on his feet in the Assembly during discussions on the private medical college in the South district hospital, many must have thought that Diggu wanted to speak on the debate, given that he was the architect of the South district hospital, built during his stint as Congress Chief Minister. Many even pointed out that Diggu will be in a better position to shed light on the oft-repeated question whether the South district hospital was designed to host a private medical college. As it turned out, Diggu only sought to know from the Health Minister whether the government has plans to set up the cardiac and neurology departments at the district hospital. Any questions?

Did CM influence IDC decision on Sunburn to support Reginaldo?

A friend in need is a friend in deed, so goes the age old saying. When Goa IDC Chairman Reginaldbab Lourenco announced that the IDC Board rejected permission for the Sunburn festival, many a question was raised whether the Curtorim MLA had taken the decision suo moto or with a nod from Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant. For, sources say that a decision on an important issue such as Sunburn will not be left to the discretion of the IDC chairman. This only brings to the fore the moot question whether the CM came to Reginaldbab’s rescue to deny permission for Sunburn on the IDC land and scuttle Opposition’s plans to launch an agitation. Any questions?

Relief for IDC chairman as Board rejects Quitol land for Sunburn

Chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) must be a relieved man after the IDC Board took the final decision not to lease out the Quitol land for the Sunburn music festival. For, his detractors within Curtorim and outside had left no stone unturned to direct their tirade against the Independent MLA supporting the BJP-led government. In fact, it was apparent since the time reports did the rounds that the IDC land at Quitol is the venue for this year’s Sunburn festival that the opponents will not allow Reginaldbab to go scot-free. Any takers?

Will Girish stay with CWC or will he return to Goa?

What’s next on the agenda of ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar after his determined bid to get Congress ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election for the South Goa seat came a cropper? Well, Girishbab celebrated a quite birthday at his residence earlier this week. Questions, however, are asked in political circles, both within the Congress and outside, whether Girishbab will be content with the Congress Working Committee (CWC) position or will he return back to Goa politics. His success in the North-East when the Congress bagged a couple of seats from the states he was the party in-charge, whether he would return back to Goa a la Luizinhbab Faleiro in the run up to the 2017 Assembly election. Any questions?
