Opposition leader Yuribab Alemao seemed to have had his way with the double engine BJP government ruling Goa and Delhi. For, when Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced expansion plans for the Navelim-Cuncolim NH66 stretch during the weekend, the news rung in good news for Yuribab and his aides. For, the government has decided to build a flyover at Panzorconne, the entrance to Cuncolim, right up to the now defunct NUSI hospital. The decision should certainly keep Yuribab in good stead for the simple reason that he had kick-started his political career by opposing the highway expansion passing through Panzorcone. Watch out for further details.
AAP MLAs left in the lurch as govt snubs key demands
Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Captain Venzybab Viegas and Engineer Cruzbab Silva seemed to have been left high and dry by the double engine BJP dispensation. First, plea made by Venzybab in support of the demand to build the Western bypass on stilts passing through Benaulim had found no takers. Now, the demand by Velim AAP MLA Cruzbab Silva to build a road bypass instead of a flyover at Chinchinim in his constituency too has come a cropper. Interesting, isn’t it?
After Jharkhand, all eyes on Girish’s next assignment
What’s next for Congress Working Committee member and ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar? Well, this question is being asked in Congress circles and outside after the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance retained power in Jharkhand in the recently held elections. For, Girishbab was drafted by the Congress High Command as Chairman of the party Screening Committee to shortlist candidates for the Jharkhand polls. It is an open secret that Girishbab is keen to return back to Goa to take charge of the organisation? Will the Congress leadership depute him back to Goa or is there some other assignment waiting for Girishbab. Wait and watch.
Sewage stench from River Sal points to unresolved crisis
Is the sewage issue plaguing River Sal, Saxtti’s lifeline, resolved? Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira had to grapple with this question after the media raised the issue of rampant discharge of sewage in the river. Aleixobab may have wriggled out of the situation by saying the Pollution Control Board is monitoring the situation at the STP. How about the storm water nullahs carrying the sewage waters? One may do a reality check by taking a walk along the Khareband stretch of the river, or drive down the Margao ring road, or simply stand at the Old Market circle, and get the sewage stink emanating from the water bodies. Any questions?
GSPCB’s scrapyard inspection in Benaulim draws political attention
Many an eyebrow was raised in political circles when officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) headed by Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira inspected a scrapyard on the banks of River Sal at Benaulim, the fiefdom of AAP MLA Venzybab Viegas. Hold on. The lightning speed with which the Pollution Control Board has acted in the matter has only thrown up more questions. For, the GSPCB had conducted the scrapyard inspection on December 12 before issuing directions to stop the activity on December 13 – in a space of 24 hours. A record of sorts? Benaulikars wonder.
