The Congress seemed in no mood to leave the government scot-free over the move to shift the controversial Sunburn festival down South. With the party tasting big success in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the party leaders in private say the Sunburn issue indeed gives the party an opportunity to make a big comeback not just down South, but the entire Goa. A senior leader said the onus lies on the party leadership on how to tap into the sentiments running high amongst the people of South Goa against Sunburn. Indeed, the Sunburn festival offers hope for the Congress to revive its fortunes ahead of the 2027 polls. Any questions?

Controversial EDM festival puts Reginaldo in a tight spot

Plans to shift the controversial Sunburn festival to South Goa have put Curtorim MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco in a tight corner. As the head of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation, people expect the Independent MLA to take a final call on the permissions for the EDM festival on the IDC land at Quittol. None other than Reginaldbab knows for sure that the Sunburn festival has given a fresh armament to the Congress to corner him politically. Having faced brickbats for supporting the BJP-led government after the 2022 Assembly election, Reginaldbab must be bracing up for a fresh bout of attack. Last Sunday saw arch-political rival Morenbab Rebello raising the issue at the Curtorim gram sabha, seeking clarity from the MLA on Sunburn. Wait and watch how the four-time Curtorim MLA weathers the storm brewing in his backyard.

Cong chief 'missing' at Viriato's meetings bewilders partymen

An initiative by newly-elected MP Viriatbab Fernandes to hold interactions with block members of Margao, Cortalim and Benaulim last week has raised many an eyebrow in Congress circles. For, GPCC Chief Amitbab Patkar was reportedly conspicuous by his absence at the interactions held at the South district office. Political observers are trying to figure out whether Amitbab could not make it for the interactions or whether the party chief was not kept in the loop on the exercise. It’s another matter that the Amit-Yuri duo had a round of meetings with block presidents from South Goa during the weekend. Interesting, isn’t it?

Kamat vs Cong: Political face-off over house collapse

It was a week when Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu and Congress leaders were locked in a game of one-upmanship over the house collapse of retired Home Guard Vimalbai Shirodkar. Diggu slammed the Congress for seeking mileage under the garb of rebuilding Vimalbai’s house. He did not spare MP Captain Viriatbab Fernandes as well for descending at Khareband along with bête noire Saviobab Coutinho. Congress, on the other hand, say their plan to rebuild the house through donations invited prompt attention from the disaster management department to rebuild Vimalbai's house. Guess who has won the game of one-upmanship? No prize for the right answer.

Swift aid to house collapse victim prompts calls for consistency

South Goa District Disaster Management authorities may earn accolades for their promptness in sanctioning an amount of Rs two lakh from the natural calamity fund to rebuild retired home guard Vimalbai Shirodkar’s house. Citizens, however, hope and pray that the disaster management bosses display similar zeal and promptness in all cases of house collapse, besides other natural calamities. Sources said the disaster management department should not give an impression that it has acted with alacrity just because the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress jostled to rebuild Vimalbai’s house. Any questions?
