Speculations rife over Tawadkar’s Cabinet move, hunt for new Speaker

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | SEPTEMBER 07, 2024, 12:23 AM IST

With speculations rife that Speaker Rameshbab Tawadkar may soon get a Cabinet berth in the Pramodbab Sawant dispensation, political observers are on the job to find out the candidate for the post of Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker. In the event the saffron brigade decides to induct Tawadkar in the Cabinet, the leadership will have to zero in on his successor. Sources said the BJP is expected to root for a strong candidate for the Speaker’s post with an aggressive Opposition out to corner the government as evident during the recent Assembly sessions. Any questions?

BJP’s ST ZP leadership move puts Cong in a spot ahead of 2027 polls

BJP’s decision to settle for Sanjanabai Velip for the post of South ZP Chairperson may throw up a question or two for the Congress leadership – has the Congress any plan to groom and promote ST leaders in the party, more so when political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes may finally become a reality in the 2027 Assembly election?  Sources in the Congress admit in private that successive Congress leadership have failed to groom ST leaders in the party as a result of which there’s no ST leader worth its name in the party unlike the ruling BJP. Any takers?

MLAs go the extra mile for Chaturthi clean-up in their constituencies

Both Margao MLA Diggu and his Fatorda counterpart Vijaibab Sardesai seemed to have left no stone unturned to make their Constituencies chakka chak ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. The duo deployed their own JCB machines, trucks and army of workers in the clean-up operation in their respective areas. The BJP-ruled Margao Municipal Council, however, may have to answer a question or two – what prompted the two MLAs to engage their own men and machinery when cleanliness is a basic function of a civic body? Indeed time for introspection?

New AICC secy’s visit signals Cong’s renewed focus ahead of 2027 polls

Days after her appointment as AICC Secretary in-charge of Goa, Dr Anjali Nimbalkar is on a two-day visit to the State for an interaction with party leaders and workers. Dr Anjali’s appointment, Congress sources say, assumes significance for the reason that the High Command has finally appointed an AICC Secretary for Goa after a long time.  That’s not all. If sources are to be believed, the Gandhis are very much keen in strengthening the party organisation in Goa to gear up the party rank and file ahead of the 2027 Assembly election. Wait and watch.

Eye on future: Cong leaders monitor seat-sharing talks with AAP

The ongoing seat-sharing discussions between Congress and AAP leaders for the Haryana Assembly election is being keenly watched by Goa Congress leaders, but for a different reason. Goa Congress leaders, batting for the INDI Alliance, in private say that an AAP-Cong alliance for the ensuing Haryana polls may set the tone for future alliances in other states such as Delhi and in Goa in 2027. A Cong-AAP alliance, however, may not ring in good news for Congress rank and file, more so the second-rung leaders, who have set their eyes on the 2025 Zilla Panchayat polls and the 2027 Assembly election. Any questions?
