MARGAO: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim continued their dominant run in the GFA First Division League, clinching their sixth consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Mandopa SC in a 7th round Group B match held at Rosary Ground, Navelim, on Tuesday.
The high-tempo clash remained goalless at the halftime whistle. However, it was Cavelossim who broke the deadlock early in the second half when Sam latched onto a lofted pass from Khanchan, skillfully controlling it before firing into the top corner to hand his team a well-deserved lead.
Mandopa, refusing to go down without a fight, found the equalizer in the 85th minute, reigniting hopes of a comeback. But Cavelossim’s in-form U-21 talent, Aliton Fernandes, rose to the occasion with a brilliant solo effort in injury time to secure a dramatic 2-1 win.
With this victory, Cavelossim now sits comfortably at the top of Group B with 18 points.
