MARGAO: Uguem Rising Club edged past Arlem Youth Association, Raia, with a narrow 1-0 win to advance to the quarterfinals of the 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament.
The match, played before an enthusiastic crowd, was a tightly fought contest from the start. Both teams showed attacking intent early on, creating several opportunities, but strong goalkeeping at both ends ensured the first half ended goalless.
The breakthrough came shortly after the restart. In the 36th minute, Uguem’s striker Austin made the most of a precise through ball, calmly slotting it past the Arlem keeper to hand his side the lead.
Arlem Youth Association responded with urgency, pressing hard for an equaliser. Despite their efforts and attacking waves, Uguem’s backline stood strong, denying any chance of a comeback.
