Players switching sides at the end of the season or going on loan to another club in the middle of the season is a normal thing all over the world for most sports. Some players have long term contracts of five to three years while some have short term contracts.
Some switch loyalties from one club to another at the end of one year or some prefer to make a long association with the club depending on a variety of factors.
But club officials switching sides every year, one rarely comes to hear about that.
But clubs attached to Goans Hockey are a step ahead, if one accesses the records of the various South Goa clubs furnished by the state hockey body in switching clubs at the blink of the eye.
Check this information from Goans Hockey from the 2022 elections, Hockey South Goa was represented by Beny Viegas and Rosy Fernandes. As for the August 15 elections Beny will cast vote on behalf of Goa Hockey promoters along with Shaban Aliketti.
It may be recalled that the vacant post for elections was declared in the first week of March this year but the process has been dragging on since then.
In this year’s March 20 electoral college circulated to the clubs Beny, the former banker was shown as a life member and eligible to vote.
The decision to give voting rights to life members was given the go ahead by the then returning officer Joey Rodrigues, brother-in-law of secretary Farrel Gracias and husband of another executive committee member Nelly Rodrigues.
Along with Beny, Farrel Husband Elvis was one of the life members and eligible to vote along with Churchill Alemao, Farrel, Dexter Pereira and Xavier Marquis.
The decision to give voting rights to life members has since been revoked.
Goans Hockey and the returning officer’s decision to give voting rights to the life members was challenged by the clubs, and the clubs opposed Joey's appointment following which he was replaced with Mildred Mendonca.
