St Anthony’s SC Marna secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Albert Developers in the GFA First Division League at Guirim ground on Monday.

The game got off to a quick start, with St Anthony’s taking the lead in the 6th minute. Siddhant Shirodkar’s low cross from the left found his namesake, Chandrakant Shirodkar, who made no mistake, tapping in the ball with a first-time strike to give his team an early advantage.

Albert Developers responded strongly, dominating possession as they sought to level the score. Despite several attempts, the St Anthony’s defense remained resolute, denying them any clear-cut chances throughout the first half.

In the second half, Albert Developers came out with renewed energy, and their persistence paid off in the 53rd minute. A well-taken left-wing corner was met by Sandesh Kavlekar, who rose above the defense to head the ball into the net, bringing the game back to 1-1.

With the match back on level terms, St Anthony’s regrouped and controlled the tempo in midfield. They looked the more dangerous side in the final stages, and their efforts were rewarded in the 86th minute. Pushparag Mandrekar weaved past his marker on the left, before curling a beauty into the top-right corner of the net to restore his team’s lead.

St Anthony’s held firm in the closing moments to clinch a vital 2-1 victory, securing all three points.

Meanwhile, Chapora Yuvak Sangh thumped Young Boys of Tonca SC 4-0 in a one-sided GFA First Division League clash at the Duler Stadium on Monday.

Chapora got off the blocks quickly with Rohan Pednekar breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute. Salman Khan doubled the advantage just before the break, slotting home in the 37th minute to give his side a firm grip on the contest.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, Joaquim Carvalho calmly converted from the spot (45+5’) to make it 3-0, effectively killing off any hopes of a YBT comeback.

Chapora continued to control proceedings after the restart, and substitute Saimesh Gaonkar put the icing on the cake with a well-taken goal in the 87th minute.
