MARGAO: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club advanced to the next round of the Fr. Gervasio Pinto Inter-Village Football Tournament after edging past United Boys of Ambaulim 11-10 in a thrilling penalty shootout at Figueiredo Ground, Pontemol, Curchorem on Friday.
The match saw United Boys of Ambaulim take the lead in the 6th minute with Visiton opening the scoring. However, Canacona Sports and Cultural Club responded in the 38th minute, with Chaitan equalizing to make it 1-1.
With no further goals in regulation time, the match went to penalties. In the shootout, Canacona Sports and Cultural Club proved to be the better team, converting their penalties with precision to seal the win and progress to the next stage.
